100 Days of Leaf Art - Week 8

Week 8: Working Through Creative Blocks

It happens - some days, inspiration runs dry. Rather than forcing ideas, I allow myself to step back and observe. Looking at nature, flipping through old sketches, or even revisiting past leaves sparks fresh ideas.

Creative blocks are part of the process. Instead of seeing them as a roadblock, I use them as an invitation to slow down and reflect. Sometimes, stepping away for a short walk or working on something unrelated helps reignite the creative spark.

Creative Tip: Keep a journal where you jot down ideas, patterns, or colors that catch your eye. When inspiration dips, return to these notes.

Encouragement: A pause doesn’t mean failure - it’s just a chance to refuel. Keep showing up, and creativity will return.

Stay inspired:
My Leaf Arts course offers step-by-step projects to keep you engaged.

Reframing The Time - Arts and Wellness Cafe

How are we making the most of the time that we have at our disposal?

Walk with me and take a seat in the Arts and Wellness Cafe.

Lately, I've been reflecting on time - how it stretches and compresses depending on what we’re doing. One moment it feels like hours have passed, and it’s only been five minutes. Other times, you look up and wonder where the day went. This fluid nature of time is something I explore in the latest Arts and Wellness Café episode.

We talk about:
  • Growing medicinal plants
  • Creating art papers for the month of April and fun ways to use them.
  • How batching tasks helps manage time better.
  • Reframing creative expectations - especially when projects need time to breathe.
  • Why creative hobbies are essential for our emotional well-being.

I also give you a sneak peek at my latest slow stitch and wax resist project, and talk about an exciting upcoming event - The Mastering Mixed Media Expo starting May 1st!

If you’ve ever felt distracted, uninspired, or unsure how to start your creative wellness journey, this episode is for you. Grab a tea (or water!) and come join me in the studio.

100 Days of Leaf Art - Week 7

Week 7: Finding Your Personal Style

By now, patterns are emerging in my work. Certain marks, stitches, or color combinations feel natural—this is the process of discovering my artistic voice.

As I continue, I lean into what excites me most. Some leaves become more intricate, while others stay minimalist. Recognizing my preferences and tendencies allows me to refine my approach and create more intentional designs.

Creative Tip: Look back at your previous pieces and note recurring elements. Are you drawn to certain shapes, colors, or techniques? Use those as a foundation for new designs.

Encouragement: Your personal style is unique - trust what comes naturally to you and let it evolve organically.

100 Days of Leaf Art - Week 6

Week 6: The Beauty of Layering and Depth

Layering different elements brings richness to leaf art. By adding a variety of resources, stitches, and fabric, enables you create depth and complexity in each piece.

Working in layers is a key element of my process. Sometimes I collage multiple leaves together, blending together textures and colors.

Creative Tip: Mix techniques—try stitching over burned or painted designs or layering multiple leaves together. Don’t be afraid to add new elements if a piece feels unfinished - such as fabric.

Encouragement: Creating in layers - keep adding, experimenting, and discovering. Every piece has the potential to evolve into something even more beautiful.
