Felting Faces - Expermentation

 

I am experimenting with faces using felt.  It is a new activity for me and I enjoy the slow pace of it.  I am still at the beginning of my journey and eventually would like to incorporate the slow stitching in the work as well.

I share a new project on Patreon looking at some of the yarn I already have and seeing whether I can repurpose it in the felting process.

100 Days of Leaf Art - Week 12

Week 12: Bringing It All Together - a couple of weeks to go!!

At this stage, my collection of leaf art feels like a cohesive body of work. Each piece tells a story, and together, they showcase my artistic growth.

This is the time to refine my favorite techniques and bring all elements together. Some leaves remain stand-alone pieces, while others are arranged in clusters for more complex compositions.

 

Creative Tip: Consider how your pieces work as a series. Could they be framed together? Used in a handmade book? Think about presentation and how to showcase your work.

  

Encouragement: Your art is a reflection of your journey. Celebrate everything you’ve created so far!

100 Days of Leaf Art - Week 11

 Week 11: Exploring New Techniques

With confidence growing, I explore even more with my supplies and mediums. Through playing with supplies on the surface you begin to see what works for you, and where you need to stretch yourself further. 

I experiment with mixed media—adding decorated paper, watercolor washes, or creating clusters with my stitched and burned designs.

Pushing beyond my comfort zone keeps the project exciting. Even if a new technique doesn’t work perfectly, it leads me to fresh ideas.

Creative Tip: Try adding a new material—paint, embroidery floss, or metallic ink—to elevate your designs. Keep an open mind and see where the process leads.

Encouragement: Growth comes from exploration. Step beyond what feels familiar and discover new possibilities.

Fabric Art Journals - Material Musings

 

Here is Material Musings for this week. I have been slightly snowed under, but I wanted to get a start on the topic this month.

For May we will be looking at additional ways that you can work on the fabric in your journals if you make them and use some of the supplies that you may already have.

I will be sharing over the coming weeks the following, and anything else that I may have that can make marks on the fabric and create some unique and individual pieces for stitched projects:

• The use of Glitter on Fabric - Most of us have used glitter in the past, I am sure you have some lurking in one of those draws

• Derwent Inktense Pencils and Inktense Bars - these are two of my favorite supplies, they are highly pigmented and permanent once dry

• Neo Colors

• Gesso

If you would like to know more about the supplies, I have linked them so you can check them out. Essentially, I want you to try some of the supplies that you may not have thought of using and that you already have - experimenting and playing.
