Combining paint with dried leaves opens up endless creative possibilities.

You can use most mediums on dried leaves with the right preparation.  You can also pair the mediums with the range of other techniques.  I experiment with a range of supplies to get different looks.

This mixed media approach brings vibrant energy to these delicate surfaces and they can be used in a variety of projects.

Stitching on Leaves - Day 1 Exploring Sea Grape Leaf Art

Sea Grape Leaves

After purchasing a small plant I wanted to see how I could use the fibers from the plant in a creative way.

Sea Grapes is also known as (Coccoloba uvifera) and is a coastal plant growing in the Caribbean and America.  You find it mostly growing on the beach in Barbados and many plant it in their gardens as it makes a great feature.  Various parts of the plant has been used in traditional medicine.

Fruit - The plant produces fruit which can be eaten raw or processed into wine or jam.

Leaves/bark and roots have been used in different aspects of traditional medicine for a variety of ailments.

Stitching on Leaves

The beauty of slow stitching meets the organic textures of nature. Today, I’m exploring embroidery on sea grape leaves, creating delicate designs that highlight the natural veins and curves of the leaf. It is a beautiful surface to work on.

The combination of thread and leaf fibers adds a unique textural contrast. I mostly use a straight stitch of varying lengths, French knot, and I enjoy creating different patterns with the stitches.  I also experiment with the leaves from a variety of the Trumpet Tree

Check back tomorrow to see how crochet transforms the leaves!

Podcasting - Just Start

So I decided to start a podcast in the last few months on a platform called Anchor, and have been sharing insights and revelations, about art and creativity, my time as a carer for a mother living with Dementia and things that generally inspire me.  It has been great, I am learning so many new skills, and juggling everything is becoming a fine art!

The great thing about creating the podcasts on Anchor is that it is shared on a variety of other podcast platforms and so if you have a favorite one you will be able to listen on that specific platform.

Podcasts have always been a great way of listening to your favorite content, and Anchor have made it easy for you to create and upload and then take the hard work out of it for you by uploading to additional podcast platforms.

Here are a list of the platforms that my podcasts can be found on:

Did you see your favorite one, check them out, and while your there check out my current podcast on your platform of choice - It's easy!

Stay blessed and be a blessing!

Money Mob - Radio Interview Art and Urban Gardening

Things have been happening so quickly that I was having a hard time keeping up with myself.  I touched down in London nearly two weeks ago and about a week was spent nursing a cold that I caught from my mother.  I am on the mend and just have a cough remaining and I will be sharing more over the coming days some of the things that I have been getting up to.

I wanted to share what will be happening this evening.  I have been asked for the second time to be on the Money Mob Black business Forum Radio Talk Show which is on every THURSDAY from 6pm - 8pm on Urban Jazz Radio

It is great to be able to talk about some of the work that I am doing both here and in Barbados with art, arts in health and more recently organic Gardening.

I would love to have you join us on the show with your host
Paul Muhammad & Co-hosts Glenys Russell & Sister Barbara

2. Take photographs of the different stages of a page, there can often be much to learn from this as well.

3. If you can’t afford to try out different supplies, see if a friend has ones that you don’t have and have a swap so that you can try them out.

4. Your journal pages may become the source for further work in your journal, or paintings

5. Look at some of the videos created by others working in their journals, pick up tips and ideas that you can use in your own Journal.

6. Remember that everyone has their own style, you will find yours the more you spend time in your journal.
