Blog Hop - The Journey Within - A Year of handmade art journals

I am doing a happy dance at the moment as I share with you that I will be a teacher in The Journey Within: A Year of Handmade Art Journals with book maker, Kiala Givehand and 17 other artists. The class begins January 1st and continues the entire year, and is incredible value for money!

Each month, Kiala will teach you how to make your own handmade art journal, give you prompts, tips and techniques for filling the pages, and bring in guest artists to share their ideas.

To kick off this great course, Kiala has created a December book and asked each guest artist to give her a challenge to complete this month. All these challenges are set up to create an opportunity to “Blog Hop.” play along as you “hop” from blog to blog. see below for the blog hop schedule.

My challenge will appear on December 8th. so do check back to see what I’ve suggested

If you decide to play along, let me know by checking me out on Instagram (@realityarts) and tag me. Use the hashtag #journeywithin2016 so we can all see your lovely work.

Material Mondays - Fabric Bowl and powertex

Welcome to another Material Mondays, where I have been playing about with fabric in a different way.  What was once an old skirt that needed to be disguarded is now a functional addition to the studio.

You have heard me on the blog rage about powertex which is a fabric hardener that I recently became aware of HERE and have been using it in some of my figurines and other things.

I thought I would try my hand at making a fabric bowl using fabric scraps and string to decorate.

The great thing is that you can create any style bowl that you choose and any size, and whilst this won't be submerged in water it is water proof.

It is a great way to use up all those items of cloths that may have not been in a good enough condition to make it to the charity store, and you also make yourself something useful in the process.

This is one suggestion for the bowl, but I am thinking now that I will use it to place my keys in so they don't get misplaced.  If you get a chance to try out the powertex I would really recommend that you experiment it's a lovely product, and in the meantime you will be recycling and doing your bit.

People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within... Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
