Retreat Away from Home

When you think about a retreat what first comes to mind for you.  I know I think of pampering, spa sessions, not having to cook, and if it is a creative retreat then one filled with art workshops and spending time with like minded others.

A couple of Saturdays ago my local church held a retreat day for the women, both young and old, the children were also welcome as well, and it was great to see every one take part and share their insights.  I was asked to bring along some art materials.  I took some collage, and mark making material to add to the other creative material available.

Talking art journals
The session lasted 3 hours and it is amazing just what you can fit into the time.  One of women (Lisa) gave a talk on making new beginnings, making that start, and it was a very inspiring talk, that reminded me that I should spend more time journalling and also something I have been enjoying for a while Art journalling.  The other thing that stood out for me was talking about timelines, and noting significant timelines during the course of your life, this is something that you could combine really well with journalling.

Making paint pallets out of cardboard
I spent some time sharing how to use some of the materials that I brought, such as the collage material, and the tools that can be used to create texture within your art work.

I shared with some of the women on my table how I used bible and dictionary pages along with other ephemera to create a collage.

For this collage I create flowers out of bible pages and a mixed ephemera loosely adding color to the pages

I then spent some time cutting them out and applying to a decorated background and adding additional colors.  3 hours fly when your having fun and we all got an opportunity to share how we were impacted by the whole session.  We were all spiritually fed as well as creatively.  Once I got home, I was still in the flow of creative experimenting and got to add some finishing touches to my two pieces.

Grounded - Mixed Media Art
Here is another one that I completed, and once home added the white detail to the flowers.  The flowers have been inspired by ones that we were shown on a session with Tiare Smith as part of The Journey Within Year long Art Journal Workshop, which was great!

How does your garden grow?

I really enjoyed creating the flowers, it allows you to be so free with your work, they are easy to create and look so pretty.  I also enjoyed every aspect of the Retreat Day, as it allowed us the time to reflect and refocus and look at how we can give ourselves a fresh start.

For a limited time on Tiare's site through to the end of Valentine’s Day get 10% off workshops and bundles (discount good on Tiare Smith Designs hosted workshop only. Does not apply to The Journey Within). In one of the courses she shows you how to make the imagery with the flowers and more.  Just enter code: IAMLOVE at checkout.

Why not take yourself on an online retreat and take the time to meet with your creative self and grow.

Doodle play - a bit of time out - Insight

Doodle, a way of taking time out, filling in time, just allowing your thoughts to flow or not as you wish, as you draw each line, without a specific plan or purpose, then you take a step back and look at the journey you have taken through your mind.

I think the doodling reveals something about us, our thoughts maybe a way of working through things, who knows.  I enjoy it.

Insight - Doodling

When you get a chance, get out a piece of paper and pen and just allow your creativity to flow and play with shapes, lines, without any restrictions or preconceived ideas - enjoy!

Gratitude's and Celebrations - Week 33 - Use your strength

Gratitude's and Celebration Journal

Sometimes we forget the many things that we have come through, gotten out the other side of, stepped out of the way of.  There are times when we never thought we would get through and nearly came to the point of giving up.  In these times we have to call on those strengths that we don’t often get to use though they are they there. I am not talking the physical ‘I can move a mountain’ strength, but the ‘I have been to the deepest darkest pit and came out the other end type of strength and we have to dig deep.

This type of strength is the kind that comes out of immense pain, be it loss or illness. Our strengths are often prepared in the fire. I see one of my strengths as one who can encourage, having come from a place where in my younger days I wanted to disappear to experiencing the loss of many loved ones.

I love being able to support others in being able to find the strength which lay within them, that can often mean a simple shift in perspective or uncovering and dusting what they saw as weaknesses. I am grateful for today for the strengths which lay within me and celebrate the ones that I will uncover this year.

What would you say your strengths are and how can you uncover new ones?
How can you identify the many strengths you have in your life today? I would love to hear from you and share what you will be doing. As this weekend draws to a close have a blessed week If you want to see how I made the journal (click here) Blessings!

The One Flaw in Women

I think I saw this as a video, and also in email, not sure who the author is but I was blessed by it, thought I'd share it here.  To all the beautiful, inspiring and talented women who sometimes forget how valued and treasured they are. Also, check out the Brave Girls Club for a community of supportive and encouraging women.

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.  They smile when they want to scream.  They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They go without so their family can have.  They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.  They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member,  yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.  They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colours.  They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.  The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.  They bring joy, hope and love. They have compassion and ideas. They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have vital things to say and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN.....IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH..
