Thank you for joining me in my studio for the Art Studio Essentials Daily Series in January to kick start your creativity and to check out some supplies. Today I will be sharing some of my jewelry tools that I have in my supply.

Tools in the Studio

Go and have a rummage around and look at any tools that you may have neglected, and are crying out for you to use them alongside your art supplies that are hanging around.

We all have those times where we feel less like creating and what I hope to show you is that we can look at our supplies in so many different ways there is something to fit any mood you may be in.

I keep saying it but you need to find time to be creative and there are so many ways in which you can do so.

Check out the video below to see some of the tools I have in my stash, there are more that didn't make it out today but they are no longer forgotten.

Painted Fabric - My 31 Art Studio Essentials

I am glad you could join me in my studio for the Art Studio Essentials Daily Series today, with the aim of kick starting your creativity and to look at your supplies in a new way.

Yes we use our supplies but do you really USE them?  You will find that many supplies have a dual purpose and it is only when you spend time playing with them that you get to see their full potential.

Today I will be playing about with my painted fabric, and showing you how I create them recycling and using the supplies in my studio, a great way to use those moments when you want to do something creative but have limited time.
Painted Fabric waiting to be taken on an adventure
What are you doing with those neglected art supplies hanging around waiting to be used? Are they buried in a draw gathering dust, and drying out?

I love recycling so have experimented with a variety of fabrics over the years 'courtesy of my son's old school uniform' and found that these fabrics work really well in a creative environment.

If you check out the video you will see some of the ways in which I have used them and what I will use them for. I hope it inspires you to look at your own fabrics in a different way and start to see where your creativity will take you.

My 31 Art Studio Essentials - Books

I love books always have and always will, despite my love for my Kindle, though as an artist I find there are some books that have to be felt, poured over and pages flipped.

I wanted to share a few with you and encourage you to use the great resource which they give you for ideas, inspiration, and will get you out of any slump that you may be in as you question your ''Why' as an artist.

Check out the video which goes into more details about each book and I do a mini flip through and tell you why I like these particular books.  I will at a later date be doing a video to review the books but you will get a good idea as to how these particular books can help you.

Also check out these places for more books some at a discounted price and ones that have some of my favorite magazines as well.

My 31 Art Studio Essentials - Painters

Painters

The Video

I have been using Painters for a while now and they come in all shades, shapes and sizes.  They are single tipped and I mostly use them for writing or making marks on journal pages.

I think that they are great for marking any surface, but of course you need to test them out.  They are just right for my journal pages and will write on any medium placed on the page.

I would normally use them when I want to add additional marks on the page, and you can see below that playing around with your pens allows you to understand how you can utilize it to the full.

With one pen you are able to make a range of marks when you hold it at different angles.

This is another great activity for you to try when you want to just play and get to know your supplies.  Watch the video and have fun with what you have and see how you can use your supplies in a different way.

My 31 Art Studio Essentials - Pro-Marker Pens

The Video

Pro-Marker Pens

My Promarker pen set has grown,  I started out with the small set either 6 or 12 and then added to them over the years.  This comes under my list of essentials as I use them when I want a change from using paint and other supplies.

You get a smooth finish when using them and they also come with a blender that you can use between colors.  The downside that I found is cosmetic, they didn't come with the colors on the lid, and I have had to make my own, or purchase the stickers.

They also came with these stands which I didn't find very convenient as they took up studio space so I created a pen holder for myself from recycled materials.

You can check out the holder that I created out of recycled materials, and also take a look at the resources below.

My 31 Art Studio Essentials - Acrylic Paints

Acrylic Paints

I have a range of acrylic paints that I use for different types of work.  With the Folk Art paints I usually use this in my journals, although some of the better quality paints will give your art journal a great finish, so it is worth having a play around.

I would mostly use my main acrylic paints when I am creating paintings or art where the quality is important.

If you don't feel like painting, playing with your paints is another option.  You could spend time creating color swatches, or order your stash

31 Art Studio Essentials - Gesso

Firstly

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope that this year sees you extend from your comfort zone and really see the treasures that you hold within you.

This is the beginning of a 31 day adventure through my art supplies and tools to share with you some of my favorites and how I use them when I am short of time or feeling stuck.

All about Gesso

If you have seen some of my other videos you will see that Gesso has a special place in my heart.  It comes in clear, black and white and you can mix acrylic with it to give you another color.  It provides a tooth for the surface that you might be working on, especially the thinner kind that you get with some altered books.

You might decide as an activity to sort out your supplies, and You can also spend time preparing pages as an activity, especially when you are short of time, adding color to the pages or using stencils to create texture.

Gesso can also be used on fabric, I especially like to create my own painted fabric, creating designs, and using a range of supplies to decorate.

I like the creaminess of the Gesso and I have a black one that is so thick and creamy it looks good enough to eat!! lol

But you have to see it to get what I mean. Take a look at my video so see how creamy it is, and also check out the resources that I mentioned in the video.

I find this acrylic gesso slightly runny even though they are made by the same company but it is worth a try depending on how you want to use it

I hope that this has given you some ideas to play with your gesso and see what different effects you will be able to get.  Come back tomorrow for another supply and see where it can take you!

Stay blessed and be a blessing
